Position Summary This overall objective of this position is to reduce workers' compensation costs and facilitate employee's early return to work. This position reports to the Director of Care Management, Managed Care, and Social Work Services with extensive contact to Mary Ann Lind. The incumbent must be sensitive to the concerns and goals for employee safety, compliance and hazardous risk reduction. Delivers quality services by adherence to policies and procedures, best practices, and applicable regulatory requirement. Duties of a Workers Compensation Case Manager in the Care Management Department may include the following but are not limited to: Develop and maintain an on-line injury reporting program to create data content and resolve program requirements to ensure a successful system of reporting. Develop action plans on complex cases. Identify and resolve Workers Compensation process issues within the hospital and as related outside agencies. Incumbent is considered the coordinator between the NYS Insurance Fund, Civil Service, Human Resources, Timekeeping, Employee Health and Environmental Health & Safety. Identify and resolve related financial issues. Verifies that the Hospital is billed correctly for workers' compensation causes and determine a process to prevent reoccurrence of errors. Runs PeopleSoft reports against hospital bill to confirm all injured workers billed to the hospital have a hospital line number. Manage a staff assistant inclusive of devising and implementing a training program, determination of duties and oversight of work. Track significant work-related injuries. Work with department in revising and developing Policy and Procedures. Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree. Registered Nurse. Previous experience communicating with patients and physicians regarding injury diagnosis and prognosis. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Workers' Compensation and/or Case Manager Experience Certified Case Manager preferred. Workers Compensation experience Preferred Special Notes: Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.
