This position reports directly to the Shelter Supervisor. The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide advocacy, individual and group counseling and support services to the children residing at the Neopolitan Lighthouse Domestic Violence Shelter.
Below are the list of duties and responsibilities of the Children's Case Manager.
Complete intake for children and provide service throughout their stay that focuses on: non-violent conflict resolution; identifying feelings, reconciling feelings towards witnessing domestic violence, healthy esteem empowerment and education
Closeout files when client leaves
Provide individual and group counseling
Provide age appropriate educational services (preschool, tutoring, etc.)
Assist with implementing additional therapeutic activities including art therapy, filed trips, etc. .
Advocate on behalf of children in matters of education, family or individual counseling, referrals, etc.
Document time spent with clients
Participate in appropriate training seminars
Provide crisis interventions
Be familiar with the DCFS laws and issues pertaining to children
Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings
Work with mother's on positive parenting practices
Work with other staff to provide a positive, safe, and empowering environment for all resident
Answer 24-hr. crisis line and cover shelter shifts when necessary

A B.A. in social work or related field accepted but a Master's is preferred. 1-2 years’ experience working with children and knowledge of the issues pertaining to abused women and their children. 40 hour domestic violence certification a plus.
