Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Executive Director of Disability Services (DS), the Associate Director oversees the department's eligibility review process to determine appropriate and equitable accommodations for students under the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act (ADAAA) of 2008 and other applicable federal and state laws. The Associate Director reviews eligibility determinations made by Disability Services staff and provides suggestions regarding interpretation of medical documentation, functional limitations and accommodation authorizations for students. This includes determining whether a student qualifies for disability accommodations, assessing the interaction of the student's disability with the academic environment, determining specific accommodations for academic, housing, and other student campus needs at all university sites, assisting students in securing reasonable accommodations at clinical or internship facilities, communicating accommodations to pertinent faculty and staff and monitoring delivery of accommodations. This position provides overall leadership in the absence of the Executive Director. The Associate Director advises students, parents, faculty and University administrators and staff on disability-related issues and partners with Global Programs and regional sites to facilitate access to programs, services and facilities, and assure appropriate accommodations and arrangements for disability services.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Counselor Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education or related field required. Requires 5-7 years' experience working directly with individuals with disabilities in a university or similar setting. Previous supervisory experience required. Expertise in evaluating disability documentation, determining eligibility for services and accommodations, and generating a plan for the provision of services and accommodations, in collaboration with students, faculty and staff. Experience applying the Americans with Disability Amendment Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as they pertain to post-secondary institutions. Must possess strong written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with high level administrators, faculty, parents, and other stakeholders. Ability to successfully negotiate complex systems, analyze data and assess needs as well as address student needs and emergencies in an effective and timely manner. Ability to handle high-volume workload, manage concurrent issues and multiple stakeholders. Dedication to creating a collaborative and creative work environment. Requires strong computer skills. This position requires occasional weekend and late evenings hours during times of peak operational volume.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Advanced degree in relevant field preferred.
