The office of the Dean of Students works to ensure the success and well-being of Mason students and the Mason community. The Dean and her staff are committed to the academic and co-curricular achievement and welfare of all Mason students, as well as the promotion of their rights and responsibilities as full participants in the Mason community. The Dean of Students' office is the place to start for any student-related concern other than academic or financial issues. Serves as the case manager for the threat assessment team, which includes management of meetings, assisting with case preparation, investigations, oversight of case follow-up, data management, and coordination of team training.
Serves as the case manager for the violence prevention committee, which includes data management, and assisting with the work of the group.
Meet with students, faculty, staff, parents and other constituencies, as needed, to address concerns and connect with resources.
Serves as the primary point of contact for the management of the dean's certification process.
Keep record of emergency parental notifications that are made through the University Life Administrator On-Call.
Keep record of all FOIA/FERPA requests that are requested of University Life units.
Serves as a point of contact and as a representative of the Dean of Students' (DOS) office for faculty, staff, students, parents and community questions and/or concerns. Serves as a representative of the DOS for orientation, meetings, and/or special events, as needed.
Technically proficient: demonstrated ability to learn and use databases proficiently in support of the office operations (e.g., Banner INB, Pave and/or equivalent case management platforms, and purchasing database such as eVA).
Ability to maintain websites.
Ability to communicate and interact professionally with students, parents, faculty, community, stakeholders, and law enforcement agencies.
Ability to exercise sound judgment on how and when to refer those in need of assistance to the appropriate staff members and resources.
Ability to respond professionally in potentially difficult situations involving issues of crisis/emergency situations.
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply institutional policies and privacy laws regarding access to student records and other sensitive institutional information; ethical and legal uses of technology in storing or accessing confidential student records and institutional data; and emergency or crisis response and prevention efforts. Ensure that information management procedures comply with federal and state requirements and university policies.
Ability to create an atmosphere where students feel welcomed, and free to ask questions and obtain assistance.
Demonstrated experience and ability to complete requests and projects from multiple people in a timely manner.
Prior administrative assistance experience demonstrating the ability to organize data and manage projects.
Demonstrated technical proficiency with data management software, and website management.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Manage and complete projects and requests from multiple people in a timely manner.
Handle confidential information and adhere to policies and procedures.
Bachelor's Degree desired, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
