Palomar Health Medical Center (located in North County San Diego) is looking for a Nurse Manager to join their Crisis Stabilization leadership team! Responsible for the overall operation of the Palomar Health Crisis Stabilization Unit, this position will mainly function to lead, manage, direct and delegate patient care. This includes education, clinical programs, financial management and the recruitment, coaching and mentoring of staff. This position will also ensure requirements are met of the contract with the County of San Diego to operate the CSU in North San Diego County.
Palomar Center for Behavioral Health meets the diverse and complex psychiatric and mental health needs of adults (18 years and older) and older adults with a comprehensive range of services. These services include crisis intervention, inpatient care and intensive outpatient services. Our Palomar Center for Behavioral Health professionals offer programs unique to North County, with decades of experience behind us and the ability to meet the changing needs of the community. The number of psychiatric patients needing hospital care is greater than the number of hospital beds available, leading to many being kept in Emergency Rooms waiting to be admitted.
In response to this need in our community, on July 2nd 2020, Palomar Health Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) moved to the first purpose-built CSU in the county at Palomar Medical Center Escondido for patients needing immediate care for a medical crisis, but not requiring direct admission into the hospital. The two-story, 6,000 square foot pre-fabricated building, designed as a place of refuge for people suffering a temporary behavioral health episode. The facility is strategically located adjacent to the Palomar Medical Center Escondido Emergency Department, eliminating transportation time from the current site and doubling the number of patients who can be served from eight to 16. This short-term facility is specifically designed to help appropriate behavioral health patients get the care needed in a quiet, safe environment. Specially trained staff help relieve crisis symptoms in a relaxing setting and assist the patients to the appropriate next level of care, or a safe return home.
