Job Summary:
Reporting to the Dean for Academic Planning & Class Advising in the Deans' Office for Advising and Support, the College Case Manager and Leaves & Returns Coordinator will be a resource, advocate and support for students managing serious academic concerns or personal issues/emergencies, students who have been hospitalized, and students taking a leave of absence from the College. This position is also tasked with helping to facilitate a smooth return from leave of absence for students, and creating and organizing specific academic and social support programs, workshops and events tailored for this student population as they reintegrate into the Barnard community. The Case Manager and Leaves & Returns Coordinator will remain engaged in the student's academic return to campus for at least one semester to ensure all academic needs are met and support services are in place to help the student meet their academic goals. Strong assessment skills are also essential, as this role will serve as an adviser to the Dean for Academic Planning & Class Advising regarding leaves and returns data, trends, and program recommendations.
In addition to managing the leave of absence process for the College, this position will be responsible for chairing the Dean's Evaluation Committee, a Committee that meets weekly during the academic year to discuss students of concern. Responsibilities will include creating a summary report for the Committee each week and helping to provide an overview of each student's situation, all while maintaining an appropriate level of detail and confidentiality. Other important aspects of this role include liaising with individuals and departments across the Division and campus, a commitment to professional growth and development, and strong dedication to team collaboration and innovation.
