Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is excited to announce that it has an opening for a newly created full-time, 10-month Case Manager/Crisis Counselor position to join our diverse team of dedicated, collaborative, and fun professionals. This position reports to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and works as a member of an interdisciplinary and collaborative team providing psychological services to undergraduate, graduate and, law students and other community members, as appropriate. The primary role of the Case Manager/Crisis Counselor is to provide support to students who access Counseling & Psychological Services and, are in crisis or present with elevated risk to themselves or others or require referrals to off-campus community providers or resources. This position is responsible for ensuring that higher needs clients or those outside of the scope of our services are appropriately assessed, successfully referred, and compliant with treatment recommendations, by conducting initial intakes, crisis assessments, triage services, case management and referral coordination for students seeking clinical services at CAPS. The Case Manager/Crisis Counselor will be responsible for continuing to build upon and maintain the counseling center's existing referral network of providers by initiating and maintaining ongoing relationships with community mental health providers, services, and hospitals, and will facilitate referral for student’s ongoing treatment, and coordinate successful continuation of care for students after referral. Provides all professional services and programs within a multicultural responsive and inclusive counseling framework. Adheres to the ethical standards of relevant professional licensing board. Actively involved in own professional development to further assist clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide crisis intervention services and as needed, brief counseling services for students presenting to CAPS with urgent needs. • Provide day-time emergency coverage to the student body. • Conduct triage & intake assessments, emergency interventions and stabilization and treatment recommendations. • Provide case management and coordination of care for students requiring referrals off campus. • Conduct clinical responsibilities both in-person and via telehealth • Manage, build upon and maintain the counseling center's existing referral network of providers by initiating and maintaining ongoing relationships with community mental health providers, specialized services, and hospitals. • Facilitate referrals for students’ ongoing treatment and coordinate successful continuation of care for students after referral. • Assist staff with referral process to off-campus clinicians and community resources. • Interface with the SHU community to provide consultation to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others who are concerned about the emotional well-being of students. • Build relationships with off campus partners such as mental health treatment providers, and offices that support social well-being. • Participate in the department’s robust outreach and prevention program. • May be called upon to participate in department’s professional training program. • Provides administrative services including timely and accurate recordkeeping and reporting of clinical work and crisis intervention service utilization.
Required Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology with 1-3 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree in Social Work with 3-5 years of relevant experience; • Licensed or license eligible as a Psychologist in New Jersey or Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker • Demonstrated competency in suicide risk assessment and other high acuity crisis evaluation with a highly diverse population • A minimum of 1 year of experience in mental health management or case management. • Demonstrated competence in time-limited individual counseling with individuals of diverse backgrounds • Proven ability and commitment to working within a multiculturally responsive and inclusive clinical lens and successful experience in provision of services to underrepresented and marginalized groups • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Understanding of and willingness to support the Seton Hall University Catholic Mission.
