Position Summary The Case Manager is responsible for addressing the needs of students who may experience challenges in areas such as personal well-being, safety concerns, basic needs, and academics through a variety of interventions, referrals and follow-up services. The Case Manager works closely with campus partners and provides student support as appropriate to the CMU CARES effort.
Required Qualifications Master's degree in higher education, counseling, social work, public health, or a related field. Experience working in higher education with demonstrated knowledge of systems. Experience managing response to crisis situations. Experience working as part of a collaborative support team. Ability to work with and assist others in navigating through complex systems. Comfort with consultation model, crisis intervention, and triage. High degree of personal and professional integrity, a strong sense of ethics, and respect for privacy and confidentiality. Record of establishing effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and external constituents. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong human relations skills. Strong administration skills, time-management, ability to meet deadlines and documentation requirements. Willingness to serve on university committees aimed at prevention of mental health issues. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications Student Crisis intervention experience Understanding of treatment programs, mental health terminology, including diagnostic categories. Trained in Mental Health First Aid, QPR, or ASSIST. Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice in the State of Michigan (social work, counseling, etc.). Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Knowledge of case management system software (e.g. Advocate).
Duties & Responsibilities Manages referrals of distressed students from administration, faculty, staff, and other members of the university community and provides feedback to referral agents. Conducts outreach to students through multiple modes of communication to offer support. Assists students with identifying and connecting to campus and community resources including, but not limited to, counseling and mental health, basic needs, medical care, academic supports, and daily living needs. Contacts and collaborates with other University departments to expedite resolution of problems. Collects, evaluates, and records all facts pertaining to student cases. Maintains factual case records and prepares necessary statistical reports. Maintains knowledge of promising practices and works collaboratively with CMU CARES staff to assist in the ongoing development of the CMU CARES effort. Participates with university-wide prevention programs as needed. Other duties as assigned.
